Deep Blue Time: A Writing Workshop with Elaine Bleakney

  • Rare Bird Farm 91 Duckett Top Tower Road Hot Springs, NC, 28743 United States (map)

Deep Blue Time is a contemplative workshop for all writers at any level. We will slow the world down with writing exercises designed to help us develop, strengthen, or return to a writing practice that relocates meaning in compassionate conversation with others. We will put our phones away for the day, read and talk about short writings by other humans, enjoy a picnic meal together, and reconnect to our handwriting in the inspiration Rare Bird Farm offers.

Writing supplies will be provided — or bring your favorite pen or journal if you're married to one. Bring your own lunch and refillable water bottle. Farm fresh tea provided.

Elaine Bleakney is a poet and writer based in Hot Springs and Asheville. She is the author of For Another Writing Back, an avant-memoir in lyric prose (Sidebrow Books, 2014), and the chapbook 20 Paintings by Laura Owens, an ekphrastic conversation (Poor Claudia, 2013). She edited the tear-apart anthology Poem in Your Pocket (Abrams, 2009).

Elaine's recent poems have appeared in Harp & Altar, the Yale Review, and Action, Spectacle.

Elaine has taught writing workshops at the University of California at Irvine, Penland School of Craft, Flagler College, and elsewhere. She has been a guest writer at Warren Wilson College and Kenyon College in Ohio.
