Guide to Camping at Rare Bird Farm

CAMPING GUIDELINES

  • Rare Bird Farm is not a campground, so you must be attending an event to camp. Camping tickets are sold separately from the event tickets.

  • Guests are responsible for their own bedding, tents, headlamps and other camping necessities.

  • There are well and spring water taps available for potable water. Trust Cafe is only 1.5 miles away and has restaurant hours and a small convenience store. You can also bring your own food.

  • We are located in a dry county, you must BYOB for drinks, beer and wine.

  • All campsites are first come, first serve — a guide to the different camping areas of the farm is below.

  • You will drive into the barnyard to check in for camping. After you choose a spot, you can unload and then park in an internal parking lot inside the farm. There is no designated area for car camping.

  • There is an outdoor shower in the barnyard that is open to campers and a compostable toilet and handwashing station.

CAMPING AREAS

Creekside
There is space for approximately 5-7 tents along the creekside in different flat areas. These spaces are first come first serve and are serviced by the main bathroom facility in the middle of the farm. These are great for single campers or couples with one tent.

Lightning Bug Rock
There is space for 3-4 tents in a rock circle ring above the Chestnut Barn stage. There are not facilities here, so you would walk back into the middle of the farm for bathrooms (a short walk). Great views of the farm, Chestnut Barn stage and Gobbler’s Knob. (Farrah’s favorite camping choice;-)) There is a fire ring, big boulders and nestled under a large pine tree.

Old Garden
There is space for 15-20 tents in the old garden space across Tug Fork Creek. There are not facilities here, so you would walk back down into the middle of the farm for bathrooms (a short walk). This space sits on the other side of the creek and above the central barnyard. It is tucked back and surrounded by boulders and trees. It is south facing looking out at Gobbler’s Knob.

Horse Barn Camp
The Horse Barn is a large wooden shelter under which 2 tents can be pitched (6 adults) or you can sleep in sleeping bags on thermarests directly on wooden floors under the shelter. There is also room outside the shelter for 1-2 more small tents. In addition to being guarded from the elements, the Horse Barn also has a private fire ring. The Horse Barn is above the Greenhouse Field and affords a bit of privacy over the other campsites. You will supply your own tents and bedding, sleeping bags, etc. You can use the outhouse in the greenhouse field for a bathroom closer to the campsite.

Greenhouse Field
This sits just above the venue and is a flat field connected to our greenhouse. The Greenhouse is outfitted with water and propane two-burner camp cook stove. There is also room for a couple of tents in the greenhouse itself. There are 6 small tent spots here and an outhouse bathroom to avoid having to travel to the main bathroom facility late at night. Sits below the pig pasture and above the garden. There is an outhouse, a fire ring, an A-frame camping pod, and a picnic table. This spot is great for a big group of friends.
